Teleperformance offers 598 employees in France the chance to leave, around 25% of its workforce

The world leader in call centres is adapting to a difficult economic climate and has announced plans to shed 600 employees in France as part of a voluntary redundancy scheme. Teleperformance employs 14,000 people in Portugal and almost 45,000 in Colombia.

‘Last Friday, at a works council meeting, the management of Teleperformance France presented its social partners with a transformation and reorganisation plan for France, and proposed a voluntary redundancy scheme affecting 598 jobs. For several years now, Teleperformance France has been facing significant structural challenges which now require a new organisation in order to restore its competitiveness and ensure its long-term future in an increasingly competitive environment. The investments made and measures taken in recent years to restore competitiveness in France have not turned the situation around.

This transformation project is part of a long timetable lasting several months, as part of a voluntary redundancy plan, with no forced departures. This project would involve a new organisation of the sites with 4 specialised centres of expertise: Bordeaux, Le Mans, Orléans and Villeneuve d'Ascq. The remaining 9 sites would be attached to the 4 specialised centres: Asnières, Belfort, Laval, Lyon, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Montpellier, Niort, Reims and Toulouse.

The Group's management, acting responsibly and in close consultation with the social partners, will do everything in its power to limit the social impact as much as possible and will seek all possible solutions to ensure that each employee can benefit from appropriate support’.

The previous press release sent out by Image 7, Teleperformance's communications and press relations agency, does not specify how many employees are on TP's payroll each month. According to the latest study by the SP2C, with E/Y, the company founded by Daniel Julien in 1978 has 2,610 workstations in France, putting it in 6th place among the major BPO players, but in 1st place if we consolidate the positions with Majorel, with which it has merged.

Concentrix is said to have 3,823 workstations in France, Majorel 4,968, Intelcia Group 4,693, Foundever 3,439 and Armatis 5,015. A workstation does not necessarily mean a job, given the number of fixed-term contracts or temporary workers employed on the platforms.

Portugal, Colombia, Tunisia, Barcelona, where Teleperformance is expanding.
At the end of 2003, Teleperformance employed 6233 people in France, out of a global workforce of 32523. It now has 75% fewer.

In Europe, in Portugal, for example, where the company provides content moderation services (Trust and Safety), the group employs more than 14,000 people and continues to recruit. Spotify, Google Ads, Expedia, Canon, etc. all have customer service, moderation or sales missions carried out by Teleperformance in Porto and Lisbon. Netflix was one of the BPO company's first local customers.

In Colombia, where our editorial team reported in 2023, Teleperformance employs more than 42,000 people and is the country's leading private employer, as it is in Tunisia. In its heyday, Teleperformance employed as many as 9,000 people in France, with its head office on rue Firmin-Gillot.

I learnt so much on rue Firmin-Gillot,’ says many managers and telemarketers who learnt their trade on the floor. The book is made up of around twenty testimonials from former employees who passed through rue Firmin-Gillot and had a life-changing experience there. Not necessarily without pain or joy.
